Antony and Cleopatra. Helen of Troy and Paris. Romeo and Juliet. And now . . . Henry and Flora.

For centuries Love and Death have chosen their players. They have set the rules, rolled the dice, and kept close, ready to influence, angling for supremacy. And Death has always won. Always.

Could there ever be one time, one place, one pair whose love would truly tip the balance?

Meet Flora Saudade, an African-American girl who dreams of becoming the next Amelia Earhart by day and sings in the smoky jazz clubs of Seattle by night. Meet Henry Bishop, born a few blocks and a million worlds away, a white boy with his future assured — a wealthy adoptive family in the midst of the Great Depression, a college scholarship, and all the opportunities in the world seemingly available to him.

The players have been chosen. The dice have been rolled. But when human beings make moves of their own, what happens next is anyone’s guess.

Achingly romantic and brilliantly imagined, The Game of Love and Death is a love story you will never forget.

Review: The writing, OMG, it was beautiful! This book is amazing. The author did a splendid job in creating the world of TGOLAD. The game was actually weirdly enticing. Just like that of the film, The Book of Life. They have this game, too. Though, the players there are funny and stuffs. The players in the game here are more serious and more involved in their champions' life. I like the concept.

I really like the plot. Well done. I read the print copy of this book and I must say that the paper used in the book and the design, fonts and all... are seriously pretty! It really did blend well with how pretty the writing is!

My few setbacks though is I cannot connect well with a lot of the characters, though I must say they are really amazing and has distinct and real and at the same time ideal traits that I think worth noticing... I just can't get connected. Maybe it was that thing they call, 'proper time, proper mood'? Haha! I'll make sure to reread this in the future and maybe I would be connected with the characters then.

Oops! wait, I forgot to mention, that I really really love Flora and Death. I think they are the only characters that successfully showed me deepness and lessons of life.

Also, the last chapters of this book kind of bore me. I think there are more chapters written that are better of less or reduced.

I am kind of disappointed to myself that this is the highest rating that I could give to this book; I felt that I'm having a mistake. But this is how I feel right now so I must just follow it. But hey! This is pretty high, y'know!

I recommend it to all romance readers out there. This is such a brilliant book and I'm sure that this story will reach and touch the hearts of many.
