Review: ***Hold it! This review might contain minor spoilers so reading will be at your own risk! *winks* I received a digital copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review. All are my own opinion and not compensated by any individual, organization or company.
Okay, let’s talk about this book’s cover first. Fudge! Sexy backside! Whoever chose this cover art is wise! I mean, just look how the cover looks and the genre this book belongs, Fitting! Readers in this genre will definitely pick this up. Look at me, I am not entirely particular at new adult novels but this caught my attention. The cover embodies steamy romance that is founded by lies—or so the title hints.
Concept is very good. A little bit—okay not bit, weird to me. 7 year old kid? In love? Already? Seriously? I do not believe it but truth be told, it is interesting. Makes you want to keep reading. Well, I enjoy challenging myself. So why not? If this book makes me believe that at such a young age, romantic love could already be possible then Ha! Congratulations! You successfully break my views!
Whilst, the writing is almost perfect; The author’s writing made sure you will keep reading. The character shaping of the main characters were deficient of proofs, proper assigning of emotions and behaviour and they just did not fit with what had been told in their story. They are the main characters of the story but the secondary characters caught my attention more. *ehem* Jackson!
1. Nosy Jace: Jace is one of the secondary characters. He’s a good looking gay friend of Lydia and Ruben. He had been such a fresh character in the story but when he confronted Ruben about the couple’s issue—He appeared too nosy. He’s a friend but still an outsider to their relationship; his confrontation is too early for the story and too early for his position to meddle. It bothered me for some reasons.
2. Jackson’s Scene!: Omg! Jackson had been a passive cast of this story and only very little background was given about him but that did not actually ruin anything. Yet, his confrontation with Lydia is probably my favourite scene in this book. He was the culprit behind making the story actually move forward. His speech was one hell of a real talk—nailed it. He totally voiced out everything I’ve been shouting at Lydia the entire time I was reading.
3. Annoying Lydia, ANNOYING!!: Drat! Lydia is an amazing character in this book. She’s so amazing at being a brat! She’s insensitive and a smug! I really do hate this kind of heroines. They either flat out ruin my reading experience or clouded my overall opinion about the book. She’s also a big damn hyprocrite! She always says she loves Ruben and blah blah blah then the moment she saw Jackson—she pointed out he’s hot and yummy! Damn, woman, your inappropriateness and annoyingness is all over the place!! Hate how her character changed when she grew up and hate how she just changed again immediately after receiving one blow of reality from Jackson.
Now, that must be because of the pacing. It went well nicely at first and when it came to the middle of the book; things got pretty dull and I feel stuck at gagging and shouting at Lydia. Then Jackson came in, story got juiced again and moved forward but then things just seems so rushed to me.
Their chemistry is undeniably good, though. The bed scenes are steamy and hot. The author really knows how to write scenes like this. It's not lecherous. It's just simply romantic.
Now as for the people wondering if I'll recommend it? Yes, I will still recommend it because this is, despite all the things I said, a decent read. But if you read it and feel the same way I did especially about Lydia, I never said I didn't warn you. kinda!
